These practice guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations on the management of neuromuscular monitoring and antagonism of neuromuscular blocking agents during and after general anesthesia. The guidance focuses primarily on the type and site of monitoring and the process of antagonizing neuromuscular blockade to reduce residual neuromuscular blockade.

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) of Skokie, Illinois, released its 2022 Quality Roadmap, an analysis of data from 2,016 accreditation surveys conducted in 2021–2022, according to a release. AAAHC encourages healthcare organizations to use this resource to establish benchmarks and identify standards in areas of compliance and deficiency. |

MedPAC wants Congress to increase hospitals and clinicians' 2024 Medicare payment rates. If Congress opts not to follow the recommendations, CMS has to make payment updates according to current law — setting up another year of providers running to lawmakers for relief from Medicare cuts after the fact.

In this cohort study of 3997 adult patients, increasing time from COVID-19 diagnosis to surgery was associated in a time-dependent fashion with a decreasing rate of a composite outcome of major cardiovascular events. This study suggests that delaying surgery after COVID-19 infection was associated with decreasing postoperative cardiovascular morbidity and should be a factor in shared decision-making between clinicians and patients.

Burnout among physicians and other health professionals increased as the pandemic has dragged on, with a new study published in JAMA Health Forum showing that more than 60 percent of the over 20,000 surveyed were burned out by the end of 2021. That's up from 45 percent who felt that way in 2019.
