The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has provided its surveyors with new COVID-19 infection control guidance for outpatient settings and a new survey tool focused on elements involved in the transmission of COVID-19.

Surveyor Guidance

CMS’ new guidance for surveyors provides recommendations to mitigate transmission, including screening, restricting visitors, cleaning and disinfection, and possible closures. Supply scarcity guidance and FDA recommendations are also included.

Survey Tool

CMS’ new survey tool provides a focused review of the critical elements associated with the transmission of COVID-19, helps surveyors prioritize survey activities onsite and identifies survey activities that can be accomplished offsite.
