ASCA’s Medicare payment resources have been updated to reflect the changes finalized in the 2023 final payment rule for ASCs and hospital outpatient departments (HOPD). This includes the 2023 Final Rule Rate Calculator, which ASCA members can use to view 2023 Medicare rates with their local wage index applied.

Two recent surveys from Merck Manuals offer competing views of the presence of medical misinformation online. In one recent poll conducted online by The Harris Poll on behalf of Merck Manuals among 2,044 U.S. adults, 44 percent of Americans believe there is more medical misinformation online and in social media now than in previous years.

The U.S. COVID public health emergency will remain in place past Jan. 11 after the federal government did not notify states or health-care provides on Friday of any intent to lift the declaration. Health and Human Services Secretary Secretary Xavier Becerra has promised to give stakeholders 60 days notice before lifting the emergency declaration so they can prepare for a return to normal operations.

The American Society of Anesthesiologists calls on Congress to block a nearly 4.5 percent Medicare payment cut to anesthesiologists and other physicians included in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule final rule released this week. These significant cuts will compound the financial strain anesthesia groups are already facing and harm seniors’ access to surgical care.
