A research firm conducted interviews and data analysis at 9 ASCs to understand the value of switching to an EMR. They found ASCs averaging 100 cases/month & spending $1,600/month on paper switched to an EMR & saw these benefits: Recognized $177,000 in annual benefits, paid back the EMR cost in 4 months, achieved 301% ROI by year 3. Larger centers saw even greater financial savings.

Reports from ASCA’s 2023 Salary & Benefits Survey are now available for purchase.

This survey allows ASCs to compare their compensation packages to similar ASCs, negotiate a raise or determine salary and benefits for a new position. ASCs can benchmark their information with other ASCs from the same region, with a similar number of employees, of the same specialty, with a similar number of patient encounters and more.

ASCA members pay $299 for the results and nonmembers pay $399. Participants who completed at least 40 percent of the survey can access their reports for free. Purchase or access your report today.

ASCA staff have created template comment letters that can provide a starting point for members who wish to submit comments on Medicare’s 2024 proposed payment rule for ASCs. The deadline to submit comments is next Monday, September 11.

For the first time, thanks to President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act – the historic law lowering health care costs – Medicare is able to negotiate the prices of prescription drugs. Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), announced the first 10 drugs covered under Medicare Part D selected for negotiation.

Bipartisan legislation called the "GOLD CARD Act" to give physicians relief from the time-wasting burden of prior authorization has been introduced in this session of Congress. H.R. 4968, the Getting Over Lengthy Delays in Care as Required by Doctors Act of 2023, would exempt physicians from Medicare Advantage plan prior authorization requirements so long as 90 percent of the physicians’ prior authorization requests were approved in the preceding 12 months.

More than a year after a New Bern eye surgeon asked North Carolina’s highest court to take up his challenge of the state’s certificate-of-need law, the court has answered yes. An order issued Friday confirms that the North Carolina Supreme Court will hear Dr. Jay Singleton’s challenge to state CON restrictions.

Artificial intelligence computer-aided detection (CADe) of colorectal neoplasia during colonoscopy may increase adenoma detection rates (ADRs) and reduce adenoma miss rates, but it may increase overdiagnosis and overtreatment of nonneoplastic polyps. The use of CADe for polyp detection during colonoscopy results in increased detection of adenomas but not advanced adenomas and in higher rates of unnecessary removal of nonneoplastic polyps.
