Candidates who plan to take the May Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC)® exam must submit their application during the month of March.

Applicants can use ASCA’s virtual course for ASC administrators, Management Essentials for ASC Administrators, to prepare. Participants will learn what ASC leaders need to know about compliance, finance, quality management and human resources—and how to keep up with the latest information about these critical operational areas.

Only two states, Alaska and Delaware, have adapted their state laws to match the changes made by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2019. Louisiana is currently considering a proposed regulation that would partly bring the state in line with CMS changes. On February 18, the New York State Department of Health announced the state will not enforce the COVID-19 booster shot requirement for healthcare workers that would have gone into effect February 21. The requirement had been finalized as an emergency rule published January 21, 2022, and would have applied to staff in ASCs, as well as other healthcare facilities.

A bill designed to reduce and prevent suicide, burnout and mental health conditions among health care professionals has passed the U.S. Senate and is on its way to President Biden’s desk for signing. The Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act, introduced by Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine in July 2020, was named for a doctor who worked on the front lines in New York City during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

U.S. Department of Justice (02/24/22)
The Department of Justice, together with Attorneys General in Minnesota and New York, filed a civil lawsuit today to stop UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (United) from acquiring Change Healthcare Inc. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, alleges that the proposed $13 billion transaction would harm competition in commercial health insurance markets, as well as in the market for a vital technology used by health insurers to process health insurance claims and reduce health care costs.

South Shore Surgery Center has recently launched the first ambulatory robotic joint replacement program on Long Island, in a freestanding facility. Dr. Keith Reinhardt, chief of joint reconstruction, told Patch that the program launched in December 2021 at South Shore's Ambulatory Surgery Center.
