The ASC Administrator Development Program is a yearlong mentoring program that matches newer and aspiring administrators with their more experienced peers.

Help ASCA advocate for the expansion of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) ASC Covered Procedures List (ASC-CPL) by completing a brief survey. The ASC-CPL contains codes that CMS considers clinically appropriate for ASCs to provide to Medicare beneficiaries.

The last day to take the survey is this Friday, February 10.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is issuing this Health Alert Network Health Advisory about infections with an extensively drug-resistant strain of Verona Integron-mediated Metallo-ß-lactamase (VIM) and Guiana-Extended Spectrum-ß-Lactamase (GES)-producing carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (VIM-GES-CRPA) in 12 states. Most patients reported using artificial tears.

More than 60 percent of physicians across the U.S. are experiencing some sign of burnout, which presents a tremendous challenge to the nation's health system. That number reverses a six-year trend of falling burnout rates, and it's a seismic leap from the 38 percent of doctors who reported burnout just one year earlier.

Clinicians understand the value of colon cancer screenings and early detection. But for a patient who is squeamish about medical procedures, worried about healthcare costs, or simply disinclined to go looking for problems they can’t feel, the motivation to get tested isn't always there.

In this cohort study including 1,780 colonoscopy procedures, in the unassisted group, the adenoma detection rate at late sessions was significantly higher compared with that of early sessions, while with the assistance of AI systems, no such statistically significant difference was found. These findings suggest AI systems may be a potential tool for minimizing time-related degradation of colonoscopy quality.

Anesthesiologists can play a role in reducing the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming by decreasing the amount of anesthetic gas provided during procedures without compromising patient care, suggests new research being presented at the American Society of Anesthesiologists' ADVANCE 2023, the Anesthesiology Business Event. Inhaled anesthetics used during general anesthesia are estimated to be responsible for 0.01 percent to 0.10 percent of the total worldwide carbon dioxide equivalent emission.
