The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is issuing this Health Alert Network Health Advisory about infections with an extensively drug-resistant strain of Verona Integron-mediated Metallo-ß-lactamase (VIM) and Guiana-Extended Spectrum-ß-Lactamase (GES)-producing carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (VIM-GES-CRPA) in 12 states. Most patients reported using artificial tears.

In this cohort study including 1,780 colonoscopy procedures, in the unassisted group, the adenoma detection rate at late sessions was significantly higher compared with that of early sessions, while with the assistance of AI systems, no such statistically significant difference was found. These findings suggest AI systems may be a potential tool for minimizing time-related degradation of colonoscopy quality.

Anesthesiologists can play a role in reducing the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming by decreasing the amount of anesthetic gas provided during procedures without compromising patient care, suggests new research being presented at the American Society of Anesthesiologists' ADVANCE 2023, the Anesthesiology Business Event. Inhaled anesthetics used during general anesthesia are estimated to be responsible for 0.01 percent to 0.10 percent of the total worldwide carbon dioxide equivalent emission.
