ASCA is excited to announce it will offer two classes for the 2023–2024 ASC Administrator Development Program: a hybrid class that kicks off in May at the ASCA 2023 Conference & Expo and runs through April 2024, and a virtual class running from October 2023–September 2024. Applications are now being accepted for the hybrid class. This class consists of in-person content in the ASC Administrator Development Track at ASCA 2023 as well as virtual content. The ASC Administrator Development Program is a yearlong mentoring program that matches newer and aspiring administrators with their experienced peers. In order to obtain nursing contact hours, Administrator Education Units (AEUs) or a certificate of participation, you must complete an evaluation for each session through the Continuing Education Portal no later than February 28. |

The next data submission deadline for ASC-20: COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage Among Health Care Personnel is Wednesday, February 15, and covers the data collected in the third quarter of 2022, July 1 through September 30. For ASC-20, facilities must select one week per month on which to report to meet the quarterly submission requirement.

Inpatient surgery utilization levels decreased 7.33 percent from 2019 to 2021, according to a survey of over 12 million commercial insurance members by Cedar Gate Technologies — an analytics, population health, and payment technologies company.

The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) threats of "cracking down" on non-competition agreements transformed into actual action with two dramatic moves this week. First, on January 4, the FTC ordered three companies, Prudential Security, O-I Glass, Inc., and Ardagh Group SA, to not enforce their non-competition agreements based upon the FTC's finding that the non-competition agreements were illegal restraints on the companies' employees.

The FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health recently issued two warning letters to a leading manufacturer of endoscopes, Olympus Medical Systems Corporation, and one of its subsidiaries, Aizu Olympus Co, Ltd., following facility inspections. The warning letters concern violations related to medical device reporting requirements and quality system regulations for endoscopes and endoscope accessories, including surgical and gastrointestinal endoscopes and automated endoscope reprocessors.

The Joint Commission announced it is elevating Leadership Standard LD.04.03.08 – which addresses health care disparities as a quality and safety priority – to a new National Patient Safety Goal for all critical access hospitals and hospitals, as well as some ambulatory care organizations and behavioral health care and human services organizations that provide certain services, effective July 1, 2023. Current requirements for Joint Commission-accredited organizations will not change.

With the new, increased cuts to clinical labor officially in effect, the United Specialists for Patient Access (USPA) is saddened that more specialty providers will undoubtedly be forced to close their doors. Before Congress failed to address these ongoing clinical labor cuts, USPA warned about the impact they would have in undermining patients' access to care, widening the health equity gap, and putting new, unprecedented financial pressure on providers.
