Earlier this month, Heart of Texas Cath Lab and Surgery Center in Woodway, Texas, hosted a facility tour for their member of congress, Representative Pete Sessions (R-TX).
During the tour, the facility spoke with their congressman about their experience operating as a hospital outpatient department (HOPD) during the COVID-19 public health emergency. The discussion also allowed the facility to advocate directly for the Outpatient Surgery Quality and Access Act of 2021 and its importance to the ASC community.

A coalition of 22 states led by Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen (R), today formally called on the Biden administration to withdraw its COVID-19 vaccine mandate for nursing home workers and other healthcare workers in Medicare and Medicaid-funded facilities, as well as all related guidance. The coalition of attorneys general filed its petition Thursday under the Administrative Procedures Act requesting the US Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services take immediate action to repeal its interim final rule and state surveyor guidance, which require participating healthcare facilities to "develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that all staff are fully vaccinated for COVID-19."

Today, The Physicians Foundation released part three of its 2022 Survey of America's Physicians, which assessed the state of the physician practice and strategies to improve it. "Before the pandemic and now, regulations and compliance have changed the landscape of physician practice—resulting in an environment that has negatively impacted physicians' ability to deliver patient care and their overarching outlook on the profession," said Gary Price, M.D., president of The Physicians Foundation.

The Medical Group Management Association on Monday sent a letter to congressional leaders asking for a series of actions by the end of the year that it argues are needed to mitigate the impact of 2023 Medicare payment cuts to physicians. MGMA has been sounding the alarm for months about a projected 8.5 percent cut in Medicare payments next year, contending the reduction threatens the financial viability of group practices across the country.
