As ASCA previously announced, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced changes to the Healthcare Personnel Safety (HPS) Component COVID-19 vaccination forms following the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) May 2022 release. These changes impact data collection and reporting for ASC-20: COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage Among Health Care Personnel. Among the changes is the CDC’s revised definition of what it means to be “up to date” on vaccinations. To be considered as such, a healthcare worker who is eligible must have received at least one booster.

The country may see a nursing shortage of between 200,000 and 450,000 registered nurses by 2025 if healthcare stakeholders and federal leaders do not take action to address the dwindling workforce, according to a report from McKinsey & Company. McKinsey's latest data reflects responses from 710 frontline nurses and 156 healthcare professionals providing direct patient care.

Results showed having a physician assistant in the outpatient clinic positively affected Press Ganey patient satisfaction outcomes and "may ultimately improve the perception of care" after outpatient orthopedic surgery. Moritz J. Sharabianlou Korth, MD, and colleagues from the department of orthopedic surgery at Stanford University analyzed satisfaction scores from 11,059 patients who rated 24 orthopedic providers from an outpatient orthopedic surgery clinic of a single institution in 2013.

We hypothesized that vaccination of hospital staff and patients, type of surgery, and length of stay, would affect willingness to undergo a surgical procedure. Participants are more willing to undergo surgery if they have been vaccinated, if staff vaccinations are required, and if surgery is lifesaving and outpatient.
