The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced changes to the Healthcare Personnel Safety (HPS) Component COVID-19 vaccination forms following the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) May 2022 release. These changes impact data collection and reporting for ASC-20: COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage Among Health Care Personnel. Among the changes is the definition of “up to date” on vaccinations. To be considered as such, a healthcare worker who is eligible must have received at least one booster.

National Time Out Day is Wednesday, June 8, when perioperative nurses, also known as surgical nurses, will work with their surgical teams to review the preoperative safety process of time out. In its first analysis, the newly formed End Drug Shortages Alliance (EDSA) warns that the recent shuttering of a troubled Teva Pharmaceuticals manufacturing plant in Irvine, California, could affect the availability of 24 generic sterile injectable drugs, including 5 essential medications for which the company had an over 15 percent market share. The Israel-based, multinational Teva, one of the world's largest generic drug producers, closed the plant after receiving the latest in a string of warning letters from the US Food and Drug Administration about observations of contamination, dirty changing rooms and scrubs, and a years-long lack of sterilization and testing of equipment.

The Department of Health has issued updated guidance on Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Healthcare Personnel During the Coronavirus Disease Pandemic. The advisory adopts the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on transmission-based precautions for both patients and health care providers, and recommends that all health care settings adhere to the CDC recommendations.
