Candidates who plan to take the May Certified Administrator Surgery Center (CASC)® exam must submit their application by the end of this month, Thursday, March 31.

Applicants can prepare with ASCA’s virtual course for ASC administrators, Management Essentials for ASC Administrators. Participants will learn what ASC leaders need to know about compliance, finance, quality management and human resources—and how to keep up with the latest information about these critical operational areas.

A new research article published in the March 2022 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS) shows low costs for orthopedic surgery at ASCs compared to hospital outpatient departments (HOPD) even as utilization of ASCs increases. States have pivoted to dropping or relaxing many COVID-19 policies recently, including COVID-19 vaccination requirements for healthcare workers and some of the remaining restrictions on elective surgeries.

In New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy issued an executive order on March 2 extending the deadline for healthcare workers to receive a booster shot to April 11. New York had established a February 21 deadline for healthcare workers to receive a booster shot, but on February 18 announced it would not enforce the requirement due to concerns over staffing issues at healthcare facilities.

A new report released Monday charts a path for the transition out of the COVID-19 pandemic, one that outlines both how the country can deal with the challenge of endemic COVID disease and how to prepare for future biosecurity threats. The report plots a course to what its authors call the "next normal" — living with the SARS-CoV-2 virus as a continuing threat that needs to be managed.
