Amanda Hawkins, Director of The Surgery Center of Charleston, Elected President of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA)
CHARLESTON, SC, May 9, 2022—Amanda Hawkins, BSN, RN, CASC, CAIP, director of The Surgery Center of Charleston, has been elected president of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA).
The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association is the national membership association that represents more than 6,000 Medicare-certified ambulatory surgery centers across the United States and provides advocacy and resources to assist members in delivering high-quality, cost-effective outpatient surgery and other medical procedures to millions of patients every year.
Hawkins received the unanimous support of the ASCA Board of Directors at their meeting in Grapevine, Texas, on April 27, 2022, and will lead the organization for a two-year term. She has been a member of the ASCA Board of Directors for the past two years and previously served as ASCA treasurer.
Hawkins has been with The Surgery Center of Charleston since 2010. She has more than 20 years of nursing experience in ear, nose and throat (ENT) procedures, intensive care, the emergency room, the operating room, recovery care and interventional radiology. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Southeast Missouri State University, where she also competed as a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) gymnast. Hawkins serves on the South Carolina Ambulatory Surgery Center Association Education Committee and is the chair of the Executive Committee for the DHEC Low Country Emergency Preparedness Coalition.
Led by Amanda Hawkins and physician medical director Dr. Mark Ghegan, The Surgery Center of Charleston is an independent, accredited surgical facility. The center provides high-quality outpatient surgical services and pre/postoperative care and is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and, earlier, by The Joint Commission.
