The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) voted today to urge Congress to link Medicare payment updates for physician practices to the growth in the cost of providing care—a timely recommendation as lawmakers wrestle with how to handle yet another cut in physician pay. MedPAC joined the American Medical Association in supporting this Medicare reform, which would ensure patients maintain access to care.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham vetoed 16 bills Friday morning, including one that would have allowed optometrists — who specialize in primary eye care and corrective lenses, and do not attend medical school — to perform certain delicate laser eye surgeries. A professional association of eye surgeons celebrated the governor's decision.

The available evidence to support withholding GLP-1 RAs before surgery is derived from a small number of observational studies and is impacted by a high degree of uncertainty.

In its 2025 ASC final payment rule, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized three new health equity measures for addition to the ASC Quality Reporting Program. The three measures are ASC-22: Screening for Social Drivers of Health (SDOH), ASC-23: Screen Positive Rate for Social Drivers of Health (SDOH) and ASC-24: Facility Commitment to Health Equity (FCHE).
