Three U.S. congressmen have proposed a bipartisan bill aimed at addressing what they say is a patient safety loophole in medical imaging. Reps. Don Davis, D-N.C., Morgan Griffith, R-Va., and Ben Cline, R-Va., earlier this month introduced the Nuclear Medicine Clarification Act of 2025.

The Importance of Quality Assurance in Refurbished Medical Equipment

Unlike new medical devices, the refurbishment process is not regulated by the FDA standards, leading to quality disparities across vendors. A comprehensive refurbishment ensures the equipment functions as originally designed by the OEM. This gives healthcare providers confidence that refurbished devices deliver safe, effective patient care.

The AMA and the Mississippi State Medical Association were successful in their efforts to prevent scope of practice expansions that would have harmed Mississippi patients. Mississippi House Bill 849 died in committee, while House Bill 1437, a committee substitute, was tabled and didn’t progress to a vote before the state’s legislative session ended on April 6.

ASCA’s ASC Administrator Development Program will have a new, user-friendly platform developed by students of the Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences at The Craig School of Business, California State University (CSU) in Fresno, California. This platform will accept applications, automatically pair mentors and mentees, send emails to introduce them, generate and distribute participation records, and issue certificates upon program completion. In this economic evaluation, sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass were associated with an increase in expected survival relative to lifestyle modification alone. Cost per quality-adjusted life-year gained was less than $50?000 for both interventions and possibly cost saving over the 10-year time horizon.
