The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released a report outlining potential savings for Medicare and its beneficiaries by aligning payments between hospital outpatient departments (HOPD) and ASCs. According to the report, reducing HOPD payment rates to ASC payment rates could create $15 billion in savings for the government and an additional $3 billion in savings for Medicare beneficiaries over the next six years.
