The Supreme Court on Friday upheld a provision of the Affordable Care Act that requires insurance companies to offer some kinds of preventive care for free. In a 6-to-3 decision, written by Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, the majority ruled that a federal task force that determines which preventive health measures insurance companies must cover at no cost to the insured was constitutional.

The American Medical Association (AMA) today expressed concerns about the Senate reconciliation bill, citing cuts to Medicaid and CHIP funding and changes in eligibility criteria that will reduce patients’ access to care and impact physician practices’ viability, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Additionally, the AMA pointed to the exclusion of the House-passed effort to connect Medicare physician payment to the cost of running a practice.

Although the Affordable Care Act mandates no-cost coverage for colorectal cancer screenings—including required bowel preparation—more than half of patients with commercial insurance and 83% of Medicare beneficiaries are still paying out-of-pocket, a new analysis shows. The findings from this cross-sectional analysis are published in Gastroenterology.

GE HealthCare is correcting certain Carestation devices due to the risk that they may not provide effective ventilation when used in Volume Control Ventilation (VCV) mode. In these systems, effective ventilation can be achieved in Pressure Control Ventilation (PCV) or Pressure Control Ventilation Volume Guarantee (PCV-VG) modes or with manual ventilation.
