As previously projected, Baxter restarted a second IV solutions manufacturing line this week. Together with the line restarted the week of Oct. 28, these two lines represent – at their peak operation (prior to Hurricane Helene) – approximately 50% of the site’s total production and approximately 85% of the site’s production of one-liter IV solutions, the most commonly used size by hospitals and clinics.

The American Society of Anesthesiologists calls on Anthem to reverse this proposal immediately.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting health care providers and facilities about safety concerns with the use of Getinge/Maquet VasoView HemoPro Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting (EVH) Systems, and a supply concern for EVH devices. On September 20, 2024, Getinge/Maquet issued an Urgent Medical Device Removal noticeExternal Link Disclaimer to inform users to not use VasoView HemoPro 1.5 (VH-3500) and VasoView HemoPro 1 (VH-3000-W, which is marketed only outside of the United States) devices.

ASCA’s October 2024 60-Second Survey asked questions regarding facility operations with regards to anesthesiology services. The survey received 320 responses from surgery centers in 46 states. While reported access to anesthesia services varied according to facility size, the percentage of survey respondents who reported having adequate access to anesthesia providers has increased from previous years. A Certificate of Need has been issued by the State Health Planning and Development Agency in Montgomery to The Health Care Authority of the City of Hoover d/b/a Riverwalk Health and Wellness Center to build a multi-specialty ambulatory care center. The surgery center would be combined with a Medicare certified independent diagnostic testing facility.
