Joy Himmel, Psy.D, LCPC, NCC, RN, FACHA
Director of Counseling Services, Old Dominion University

Dr. Himmel has over thirty years of experience in providing healthcare services in a variety of practice settings. She has been a surveyor for AAAHC since 2009 and was recently elected chair of the AAAHC Board of Directors. She also serves as part of the teaching faculty with AAAHC.

Dr. Himmel is credentialed to survey ambulatory surgical centers, Indian Health Service, college health and community health agencies. She has a focus on both behavioral health and medical home care and specializes in providing consultation and expertise regarding integrated health environments. She currently serves as the counseling center director at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

Dr. Himmel holds a Psy.D in psychology, a master’s in clinical counseling and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor and a member of the National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists.
