Joy Himmel, Psy.D, LPC, NCC, RN
Director of Counseling Services, Counseling Services - Old Dominion

Dr. Himmel has over thirty years of experience in providing healthcare services in a variety of practice settings. Dr. Himmel has been a surveyor for AAAHC since 2009 and was recently elected to be Chair-elect of the AAAHC Board of Directors. She also serves as part of the teaching faculty with AAAHC.

She is credentialed to survey ambulatory surgical centers, Indian Health, college health, and community health agencies. She has a focus on both behavioral health and medical home and specializes in providing consultation and expertise regarding integrated health environments. She currently serves as the Counseling Center Director at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

Dr. Himmel holds a Psy.D in Psychology, a master’s in clinical counseling, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor (NBCC) and a member of the National Association for Cognitive Behavioral Therapists.
