Alexandria, VA—The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association recognizes August as National ASC Month. This month, the association celebrates the contributions of more than 6,600 Medicare-certified ambulatory surgery centers nationwide and thanks the healthcare professionals who care for their patients and communities.
In addition to providing high-quality services, ASCs currently save the Medicare program and its patients billions of dollars each year. According to a recent study by KNG Health Consulting, ASCs are projected to save the Medicare program more than $80 billion over the next decade, with more than $20 billion of those savings going to Medicare beneficiaries. As more services shift to outpatient facilities, ASCs remain the future of effective and high-value surgical care.
“ASCs expand access to high-quality, cost-effective surgical and procedural care in communities across the country,” said ASCA CEO Bill Prentice. “To ensure that our federal and state lawmakers understand the value of the ASC healthcare model, we expanded National ASC Week into National ASC Month to create more opportunities for them to visit our facilities. Throughout the month, surgery centers nationwide will open their doors to policymakers and engage with their communities to highlight the quality, efficiency and patient-centered care they provide every day.”
ASCA has posted a toolkit on the National ASC Month webpage to encourage public education and advocacy. The toolkit includes infographics, social media resources and template letters urging lawmakers to support the Medicare Beneficiary Co-Pay Fairness Act and the Outpatient Surgery Access Act of 2026.
