As Americans struggle to comprehend and deal with the challenges of managing perioperative and postoperative pain, health care professionals are actively investigating various complementary treatment plans and modalities that can prevent reliance on opioid analgesics and their related side effects. Anesthesiologists are spearheading various algorithmic approaches to managing both opioid-tolerant and opioid-naive patients. The complexities involved demand a holistic approach, which we will discuss during this session.

Physicians, historically, are highly competitive, self-confident leaders who place a high value on autonomy, but generational differences emerging in the physician community today are generating concern inside some ASCs. Strong physician leadership has long been associated with both business and clinical success, and effective physician leadership is a critical success factor in today’s challenging health care environment. Find meaningful ways to actively engage the physicians in your ASC in supporting new physician recruitment initiatives that help build depth in your ASC’s operational and clinical leadership talent.
