Why is ASC Scheduling Stuck in the 90s?

ASCA submitted comments in response to the CMS’s proposed prior authorization demonstration project for ASCs, last week. Draeger Inc. is recalling the Perseus A500 anesthesia workstation after receiving reports that the internal backup battery failed spontaneously while the system was being operated off the main power supply. The battery failure caused unexpected shutdown without a low battery alarm while the device was running on battery power.

A new report from the Health Care Cost Institute shows that, even with fluctuations in 2020 and 2021, per person health care spending grew from 2018 to 2022. Over the five years, average prices increased by 14% and utilization went up by about 4%.

The risk of CRC cancer is low in most patients with diverticulitis. Patients with complicated diverticulitis are the exception. Our results suggest that colonoscopy to detect missed CRC should include diverticulitis patients with a complication and those not current with CRC screening.
