Advanced Endoscopy Center Hosts Congressman

The surgery center celebrated National ASC Month by opening its doors to a legislator

On September 4, the Advanced Endoscopy Center (AEC) hosted US Congressman Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) at its Bronx center as part of National ASC Month. Every year, ASCA and ASCs across the country celebrate National ASC Month by hosting facility tours for members of Congress and state lawmakers, helping to educate legislators about the many benefits that ASCs provide to patients, communities and the US healthcare system.

“We each have a role to play in ensuring safe, affordable and quality healthcare for residents and the community as a whole, and I am delighted to visit with members and staff of the Advanced Endoscopy Center to discuss ways to help improve the care and access to care for surgical patients in the Bronx, the state and across the country,” Espaillat said in a release.

During Espaillat’s tour, the staff of AEC had the opportunity to educate the him about the pressing issues that stand in the way of the ASC community’s ability to continue to grow and provide high-quality, low-cost care to the ever-growing pool of patients in need of ASC services. AEC staff educated the Congressman about the legislative fixes that would help ASCs thrive, including the Removing Barriers to Colorectal Cancer Screening Act of 2019 and the Ambulatory Surgical Center Quality and Access Act of 2019.

“The Congressman was gracious and attentive as we discussed issues facing the delivery of care to our population and the benefits of an ASC over other healthcare facilities,” said Steven Housberg, AEC’s center administrator, in the release. “… it was a great opportunity to voice our concerns directly to officials that can help make a difference. For Advanced Endoscopy Center, this was the second time we’ve been able to host local officials and we have found these experiences to be well worth the time and effort. We look forward to many more visits in the future.”

While National ASC Month has concluded, facility tours can be held throughout the year and remain one of the most effective ways to educate lawmakers about ASCs and gain new supporters for the community in Congress.
