ASC Data, a provider of market intelligence for the ASC community, recently joined ASCA as an affinity partner. ASC Data specializes in providing actionable statistics on the ASC market, including specialty and ownership information on Medicare- and non-Medicare-certified ASCs; in-depth reports on emerging trends, regulatory changes and key industry shifts; and insights into new and developing ASCs, helping businesses identify future opportunities. By integrating ASC Data into its member benefits, ASCA has further enhanced its value proposition, offering members critical tools to make data-driven decisions, identify new opportunities and strengthen their market position.

Below is an excerpt from an interview with Chris Schriever, cofounder and chief executive officer of ASC Data.

Q: Tell me about ASC Data.

Chris Schriever (CS): The idea for ASC Data came about in 2020. With in-person events shut down, Alex Yewdell [cofounder and partner] and I—both longtime veterans in the ASC space—were constantly hearing from healthcare companies who were struggling to find ways to connect with the ASC market. Anyone who has worked in this space knows how frustrating it has been to find reliable, industry-wide information. We had been maintaining industry datasets and reports for our own internal use for some time, and we quickly recognized how valuable this proprietary database would be to the wider community.

Our mission is to help keep healthcare suppliers, investors and health systems at the forefront of the ASC community by delivering accurate, relevant and reliable data. Since we launched, our team of industry experts, data analysts and developers has been working to continuously optimize our algorithms and expand our database so we can deliver the most up-to-date insights.

Q: What does ASC Data do?

CS: ASC Data collects raw data from the most reputable sources across the industry—including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)—and restructures it into easy-to-understand industry reporting. From types of specialties served to corporate affiliations and number of operating rooms, our data offers an in-depth look at how ASCs across the country deliver quality care to patients. Through our quarterly insights report and annual year in review report, we highlight and summarize emerging industry trends, growth patterns and notable statistics.

What really sets ASC Data apart from other healthcare intelligence companies is our understanding of the ASC community. I have been working in this space for more than 25 years and Alex for the last 13 years. We bring that understanding and ability to quickly identify and correct any inaccuracies, which allows ASC Data to present the information in a way subscribers can start using right away.

Q: Now that ASC Data has joined ASCA’s affinity partnership program, what does that mean for ASCA members?

CS: Our team has worked closely with ASCA over the years, and we share its mission of supporting the advancement of high-quality patient care. Being a part of ASCA’s affinity partnership program means ASCA members can now receive exclusive, discounted pricing on all of ASC Data’s products. This is particularly beneficial for industry suppliers, consultants or investors who are looking to access the critical, data-driven insights they need to identify new leads, monitor the industry and optimize their sales strategy. Our goal has always been to help our subscribers better understand the ins and outs of the ASC market, so they can better tailor their solutions to its unique needs.

Q: Looking at your current data set, what can ASCs expect to see this year?

CS: One of the things I find most helpful about our data is that it allows us to easily identify patterns and trends within the industry. Take CMS ASC Covered Procedures List (ASC-CPL) for example. Each year, CMS adds new codes to the list, but the impact of those changes is not always immediately evident. Most ASCs operate at high capacity, which can make introducing new procedures a challenge, and many do not have the OR time, equipment or credentialing to start offering them right away. Over the past decade, though, we have seen the number of ORs per ASC increase in both single- and multispecialty facilities, which reflects a steady increase in procedure volume and complexity. More notably, we have also seen how the migration of higher-acuity procedures—like total joint replacement, spinal fusion and angioplasty—from the hospital setting has really shifted the ASC landscape. Over the past year, our data has shown growth in specialties like orthopedics, pain management and what CMS classifies as “other,” which includes specialties like neurosurgery, spine and cardiovascular. These remain the primary engines for growth and revenue across the industry. And with more than 30 new cardiovascular and vascular codes added for 2026, we expect to start seeing the rate of conversions from office-based labs to ASCs increase significantly.
