Minimum requirements for the physical environment that Medicare-certified ASCs must maintain are found in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) State Operations Manual Appendix L and CMS’ adopted edition of the National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 101: Life Safety Code. This session will explore current CMS requirements and help attendees understand their responsibilities for achieving and maintaining compliance. Participants will review baseline compliance as well as the often misunderstood and/or overlooked aspects of operational compliance and documentation that frequently lead to Life Safety Code survey citations. Guidance will include ways to design and implement long-term, low-stress solutions that can help your ASC remain in continuous compliance with CMS’ physical environment mandates.
