Avoid citations from surveyors and future reductions in your reimbursement by making sure that your ASC is compliant with Medicare’s latest regulatory revisions, interpretive guidelines and quality reporting requirements. Discuss both what is required and how to meet the requirements, with an eye on the day-to-day realities of running an ASC.

Ongoing compliance with Medicare’s Conditions for Coverage and the standards established by the various ASC accrediting bodies requires accurate and comprehensive documentation of the activities of your ASC’s committees and governing board. Make sure that your meetings cover all that you need to consider, your documentation is complete and you have an effective plan for addressing committee minutes and findings with your governing board. Update of New Sterilization Standards (9:00am-10:15am)

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is the standard setting organization for central sterile practices that provide guidance for processing high quality medical devices. Survey organizations develop the criteria they use to review sterilization and disinfection practices based on these standards. Each year, different standards are reviewed and updated based on current research and expert opinion. Learn about the most recent revisions to AAMI’s standards and other new developments that affect health care equipment reprocessing in your ASC. Discuss the 2015 change to humidity levels, ensuring suitable water quality for reprocessing, human factors that affect reprocessing in health care settings, loaned equipment and new standards for endoscopes.

Immediate Use Steam Sterilization Update (10:30am-12:00pm)

The recent change from “flash sterilization” to IUSS has been sweeping operating rooms and central sterile services (CSS) operations across the country. The new IUSS process requires CSS and surgery to work more closely than ever to quickly turn instrumentation while ensuring compliance with best practices and manufacturers’ instructions for use (IFU). Compare past and present immediate use sterilization techniques, learn the differences between gravity and dynamic air removal sterilizers and learn how to set up and maintain the recordkeeping required.
