FDA Clears First Duodenoscope With Disposable Elevator Piece, Reducing the Number of Parts Needing Disinfection FDA News Release (11/15/19) The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today cleared for marketing in the U.S. the first duodenoscope with a sterile, disposable elevator component that will reduce the number of parts that need to be cleaned and disinfected (reprocessed) in between uses. The Pentax Medical Video ED34-i10T2 model duodenoscope is intended to provide visualization and access to the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract to treat bile duct disorders and other upper GI problems.

More People in the United States Dying From Antibiotic-Resistant Infections Than Previously Estimated CDC News Release (11/13/19) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today released its updated Antibiotic Resistance Threats in the United States (AR Threats Report) indicating that antibiotic-resistant bacteria and fungi cause more than 2.8 million infections and 35,000 deaths in the United States each year. That means, on average, someone in the United States gets an antibiotic-resistant infection every 11 seconds and every 15 minutes someone dies.
