On January 17, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) unanimously approved two draft recommendations regarding Medicare payments to ASCs. The recommendations are not different from those passed in previous years, and Congress has thus far refrained from passing legislation related to either. Both recommendations will be included in a full report released annually in March. Learn more.

The Leapfrog Group Lifts Participation Cap for All Ambulatory Surgery Centers Nationwide to Participate in Safety & Quality Survey

In response to requests from ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) across the United States, The Leapfrog Group announced today that it will open the first annual Leapfrog ASC Survey to any licensed ASC in the U.S. In October 2018, Leapfrog announced the planned launch of its first-ever Survey of ASCs and hospital outpatient departments.

Planned Orthopedic Surgery Costs Increase 44 Percent in 8 Years

More and more Americans, including younger ones, are electing to undergo hip and knee replacements, and as they do, costs associated with those procedures continue to climb. A new review of medical claims data from 2010-2017 by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) found that knee replacements are up by 17 percent and hip replacements are up 33 percent.

Boardman's planned new outpatient surgical facility, The Orthopaedic Surgery Center, will continue to tap into the nation's growing trend of outpatient surgery for complicated procedures, such as shoulder and knee replacements, when its new facility opens near East Western Reserve Road. Groundbreaking for the nearly 13,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art $7 million facility on 8.6 acres at 8551 Crossroads Drive is at noon Wednesday.
