October 13, 2014
Flu season officially started October 1, 2014. ASCs will be required to collect data on ASC-8: Influenza Vaccination Coverage among Healthcare Personnel now through March 31, 2015, as part of Medicare’s ASC Quality Reporting Program. To report ASC-8, someone from your ASC must register with the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). This registration process can take several weeks, so ASCs are advised to register immediately.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has produced an NHSN Facility Enrollment & Set-Up Checklist for ASCs that explains the required steps for NSHN enrollment in the correct order. The CDC has also written an informational letter to ASCs that includes support links and describes expectations for reporting ASC-8.
The reporting dates for this measure will be finalized in the 2015 ASC Final Payment Rule, and it is expected the reporting deadline will be May 15, 2015.
If your facility is already enrolled in NHSN, it does not have to be re-enrolled. Your NHSN Facility Administrator may simply activate the Healthcare Personnel Safety Component in NHSN.
