Contact Your Members of Congress During Recess

April 21, 2014

This week, members of Congress are back in their districts, and now is the time to ask them to cosponsor the ASC Quality & Access Act of 2013 (H.R. 2500 / S. 1137). As ASC reimbursement continues to slide, it is vital for you to tell your story to legislators in order to protect patient access to high-quality, cost-efficient care.

The legislation would:

  • Move the ASC reimbursement update factor from the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) to the hospital market basket

  • Create a value-based purchasing program (VBP) for ASCs

  • Add an ASC voice to the Advisory Panel on Hospital Outpatient Payment (which controls various aspects of ASC payments)

  • Require the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to disclose the criteria they use to determine which procedures may be performed in the ASC setting

Contact your members of Congress today to encourage them to support the ASC Quality & Access Act of 2013 and make sure to explain the benefits of your center and the role it plays in your community. Ask a friend or colleague to do the same.

Click here to reach out via email and here for a list of phone numbers. Don't let silence and inaction become reasons we do not succeed. Tell Congress that ASCs provide invaluable services to their constituents and that their support will allow ASCs to continue providing access to high-quality surgical care at nearly half the cost of other settings.
