Medicare Releases Quality Reporting Codes

March 28, 2012

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the list of G-codes that ASCs will be required to include on Medicare claims with dates of service on or after October 1, 2012.

ASCs that fail to include these codes corresponding to whether or not a Medicare patient had a burn, a fall, a wrong site/side/patient/procedure/implant event, a hospital transfer and/or on-time prophylactic antibiotics will face reductions in their future Medicare reimbursements.

ASCs may begin using the codes on April 1, 2012, on a trial basis. ASCs that experience problems with using these codes should email ASCA.

The full release from CMS is available here. CMS is expected to release additional details soon.
