August 21, 2013
As a reminder, ASCs that provide services to Medicare beneficiaries must report 2012 volume data for certain procedures and verify their use of a safe surgery checklist during 2012 to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) between now and this Friday, August 23. ASCs that fail to report this information will face payment reductions from Medicare in 2015. ASCs must report this information via Medicare’s QualityNet web site.
The deadline was extended from August 15 to August 23 due to the delay in operability of the QualityNet system, which was supposed to be operational for ASCs on July 1 but was not available until July 10. CMS staff has indicated that around 2,800 facilities have already completed the reporting process. CMS has notified ASCA that some ASCs have entered data for only measure 6 or 7—please remember that in order to avoid penalties you must enter data for both web-based measures.
If you are trying to report on the QualityNet site and encounter any errors, call the QualityNet Help desk at 866.288.8912, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm CT, Monday through Friday, so they can walk you through the process and log a ticket.
In addition, register for next week’s FREE webinar, “CMS Quality Reporting for ASCs,” sponsored by LifeLinc Anesthesia. Attendees will get key definitions and answers to frequently asked questions about the quality reporting measures that ASCs needs to report. A quality reporting program update will also be provided. The webinar will take place on Tuesday, August 27 at 1:00 pm ET. Nursing contact hours and AEUs will not be available.
