Speaker Bios

Cristina Bentin, CCS-P, COC, CMA

Cristina Bentin is the president and founder of Coding Compliance Management LLC, a health care consulting company specializing in the ASC market with an emphasis on revenue cycle assessments, coding audits and training. She is nationally recognized as a leading freestanding ASC educator and speaker with more than 25 years of experience in the ASC and physician health care setting. She is a member of the American Academy of Professional Coders and holds its Certified Professional Coder Hospital based credential; a member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and has its Certified Coding Specialist – Physician based certification; an AHIMA-approved ICD-10-CM trainer; a member of the National Association of Health Professionals; and a member of the North American Spine Society. Bentin serves on the Education and Program Committee of ASCA. Prior to establishing Coding Compliance Management LLC, she was the chief financial officer of a surgical hospital and participated in its startup and development. She has had extensive experience with education and training for a national health care corporation, and was directly involved in the continued education of its 200+ ASC facilities and coders nationwide.

Jessica Edmiston, BS, CPC, CASCC

Senior Vice President, Performance Review Jessica leads an outstanding National Medical coding team comprised of some of the most experienced and skilled surgery center and medical practice coders in the country. She has been a Certified Professional Coder herself for more than a decade and possesses a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Missouri in St. Louis as well as the highly acclaimed Certified ASC Coder (CASCC™) Credential. Jessica is also an approved ICD-10-CM trainer through AHIMA. Jessica routinely performs coding audits for National Medical clients, identifies compliance issues, areas of missed revenue and proffers immediate mitigation/resolution strategies. She is nationally renowned for her coding expertise; from being requested by name to speak at large conferences to authoring numerous articles in medical trade journals and publications. Jessica developed the National Medical training program for new coders and also ensures that she and her team receive continuing education to remain abreast of the continuing industry trends and fluctuations.

Stephanie Ellis, RN, CPC

Stephanie Ellis founded Ellis Medical Consulting, Inc. (EMC) in 1992. She is a former Fraud Investigator for the TN Medicaid program. Her company specializes in coding chart audits, coding questions and outsourced coding for ASC facilities and physician practices nationwide. Ms. Ellis is an accomplished speaker and gives seminars nationally on such topics as ASC Coding and Billing Issues, Documentation Issues, Fraud and Abuse Issues, Medicare Denials and Specialty Coding. Ms. Ellis is on the Advisory Board of OR Manager magazine. She writes numerous articles on compliance, coding and billing issues for such national magazines as Outpatient Surgery Magazine, Becker's ASC Review, ASCA Focus, OR Manager Magazine, AAPC, JustCoding.Com, etc.). Ms. Ellis is an active member of the national Ambulatory Surgery Center Association and speaks at many of their meetings and at Becker’s ASC national meetings. She is also a member of the AAPC and the TN ASC Assoc.

Marvel J. Hammer RN, CPC, CCS-P, ACS-PM, CPCO

Marvel J Hammer RN BS CPC CCS-P ACS-PM CPCO is an accomplished professional with considerable years of experience both in the business and medical fields. She is a coding, billing and compliance consultant and owner of MJH Consulting based in Denver, Colorado. She provides medical coding and billing education, assistance with payer audits and performs compliance reviews for her clients. Marvel enjoys teaching providers and their staff on correct coding and billing issues and presents on these topics nationwide. Her field of specialties includes ICD-10-CM, Addiction Medicine, Pain Management, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Neurology, and Occupational Medicine. Some of her pastime activities include wildlife photography & exploring the great outdoors.

Lisa Rochon

Lisa Rochon began her ASC career in 1996. From that time she has either worked or supervised most positions and departments in the ASC business office including but not limited to, office manager, giving her a full understanding of the entire revenue cycle. During her 10 years with HealthSouth she was promoted to Director of Operations for the Surgery Division comprised of 250 centers throughout the country. Some of her responsibilities included evaluating center staffing needs, auditing billing and collections, performing due diligence on targeted acquisitions, transitioning new acquisitions, training new business office managers, she developed the surgery division policy and procedure manual, established a training program for the business office and was one of the trainers responsible for the training and implementation of the Sarbanes Oxley Legislation requirements. Currently she is the Director of Finance at one of the largest ASCs in AZ. In 2014 her office was presented with the Financial Management award from Outpatient Surgery Magazine. In addition to her current responsibilities as Director of Finance, she also manages a medical billing company which supports 4 physician practices with billing and collections. Her favorite moto, “Those things monitored, tend to be well managed.”

Margie Scalley Vaught, CPC, CPC-H, CPC-I, CCS-P, MCS-P, ACS-EM, ACS-OR

With more than 30 years’ experience in the Healthcare arena, in positions from nurse’s aide to ward clerk and medical transcriptionist to office manager, Margie understands how offices are structured. Over twenty of those years were spent in the field of Orthopedics. Margie stays current by attending the annual conventions for BONES, AAPC, MGMA and also the AMAs CPT symposium. She has also provided testimony regarding correct coding issues and compliance in Fraud and Abuse cases.

Joanne Schade-Boyce, BSDH, MS, CPC, ACS, PCS

Joanne Schade-Boyce MS, BSDH, CPC, ACS; Revenue Cycle Auditor and Consultant as well as an AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer. Ms. Schade-Boyce has over 30 years of experience in healthcare administration with a Master of Science, its focus on Education & Management, from Old Dominion University. Ms. Schade-Boyce has been a lead instructor of educational courses for well over 25 years, as well as an expert in the development of user-friendly training and instructional manuals. Joanne’s areas of expertise include surgical coding, revenue cycle coding audits, on- and off-site surgical coding boot camps, as well as extensive experience natively coding & educating utilizing the ICD-10 coding system. She developed a coding curriculum for Educational Institutions to incorporate ICD-10 education and assisted various educational institutions with the delivery and oversight of various ICD-10 topics. Additionally, she was the creator of an ICD-10-PCS Webinar Series for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) where she coined the phrase “Mental Gymnastics with Root Operations”. Ms. Schade-Boyce is a nationally recognized speaker and her lectures include groups such as the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, DecisionHealth, The Board of Medical Specialty Coding, The Coding Institute, Coding Conferences, AHIMA, OPTUM360, and ASC Communications, Inc. In addition to owning her own company, CodeMed Solutions, LLC, Ms. Schade-Boyce is a Senior Auditor, Revenue Cycle Consultant, and ICD-10 Trainer for other prestigious companies, such as FairCode Associates, LLC a consulting firm specializing in clinical documentation improvement strategies, coding audits and education.
