Medical Director

  1. Our Medical Director is also a practicing physician within our facility. Do I include his/her medical fees in his salary?

No, please only include the salary he/she is paid to be a medical director.

  1. Instead of billing for his/her own services, our anesthesiologist is paid by the ASC. He/she also serves as our medical director. For these two responsibilities he/she is paid $150,000 a year. He/she devotes 25% of his/her time to being medical Director and the rest to being an anesthesiologist. How do I calculate his salary for each position?

The calculation for each position is as follows:

Salary reported for medical director: .25 x $150,000 = $37,500

Salary reported for anesthesiologist: .75 x $150,000 = $112,500

  1. Our medical director is not full-time. It says to report the salaries of full-time employees only. Do I report this salary?

Yes, please report the medical director’s salary even if he/she is part-time.

  1. Our medical director is not paid a salary, but an annual stipend. Do I include this?

Yes, please check the stipend box and report the annual stipend amount.

  1. Our medical director is an owner of our ASC. He/she does not receive a salary for his/her position of medical director, but does receive a portion of the profits. Do I include this in his/her salary?

No, please do not include any profits he/she receives as an owner of the

ASC but only the salary/stipend he/she receives for his/her position of

medical director.

  1. Our medical director works 10 hours a month. How do I calculate % time worked?

To calculate his/her % time worked, take hours worked, in this case, 10, and multiple it by 12 (# of months). Then take this answer and divide it by 2080. To get the percentage, take the answer and multiply by 100

Formula Example
  1. Hrs Worked for Month*12 = X
  2. X/2080=Z
  3. Z*100
  1. 10*12=120
  2. 120/2080=.0577
  3. 0577*100=5.7%

If he worked 10 hours a week, you would calculate as follows: Take hours worked in a week, 10, and multiple it by 52 (# of weeks). Then take this answer and divide it by 2080. To get the percentage, take the answer and multiply by 100.

Formula Example
  1. Hrs Worked for Week*52=X
  2. X/2080=Z
  3. Z*100
  1. 10*52=520
  2. 520/2080=.25
  3. .25*100=25%

Salaries

1. We have a Director of Nursing and a Nurse Manager. There is only one line to report the salaries. How do I report these salaries?

If you have more than one of these positions, please report the average salary of those positions.

2. We pay all of our employees by the hour. How do I get their annual salary?

You can use our salary calculator or to calculate this number yourself:

multiply the hourly rate by 2080 to come to their annual salary.

I.e. if your employee makes $16.50 an hour.

Hourly rate *2080=Annual Salary

$16.50*2080=$34,320

3. When reporting annual salaries, how do I report part-time employees?

Do not report salaries for part-time employees other than the medical director. (Note: part-time employees should be included in calculating the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) employees)

4. Our employees receive bonuses. Do we include bonuses into the annual salaries that we report?

No, please do not include bonuses in the annual salaries.

5. What time period do we use for reporting salaries?

Please report all salaries as of January 1, 2008.

6. Our scheduling clerk is also our receptionist. Where do I report this salary?

If you have multiple positions covered by one person, please enter their

salary for each position that they hold. For example, if you employ

someone at $35,000 as your scheduling clerk and receptionist, you would

report $35,000 as the annual salary for each position.

Benefits

1. When reporting the answers to the benefits questions, do I include part-time employees?

No, please only answer the benefits questions in regard to your full-time

employees. If you have only part-time employees, please do not answer

these questions.

2. What if I offer a benefit to my employees, but do not pay for it. Should I say we offer this benefit?

Please check that the benefit is offered and in the % paid by employer, please enter 0%.

Calculating FTEs

1. I have an employee who is part-time and works 28 hours a week. How do I calculate what their FTE % is?

First, take hours worked in a week, in this case 28 and multiple it by 52 (weeks in a year). Then take your answer, 1456, and divide it by 2080 (total hours available in a year). The answer, .7, is your FTE rate for that employee.

1. 28 * 52 = 1456

2. 1456/2080=.7

2. When reporting FTEs, do we include part-time employees?

Yes. To get this number, compute what % of a FTE each part-time employee is and total to get your complete FTEs. See the above question on how to come to this number.

Results

1. I noticed there are some extreme high or low salaries reported. Doesn’t that skew the mean salaries?

Yes, it does skew the mean salary. To prevent skewed data, we also report the median salary, which is not skewed by extreme numbers.

2. What is the difference between mean and median salaries?

A mean salary is the average salary. To calculate the mean or average salary, you simply add up all the salaries and divide by the number of salaries.

A median salary is the midpoint of a group of salaries. To calculate the median, you arrange the salaries in order and take the middle number.

For example, take the following salaries:

$45,000; $45,000; $48,000; $50,000; $250,000

To calculate the mean:

$45,000 + $45,000 + $48,000 + $50,000 + $250,000 = $438,000

$428,000/5=$87,600

Mean=$87,600

To calculate the median:

$45,000; $45,000; $48,000; $50,000; $250,000 (salaries arranged from lowest to highest, then find mid-point)

$45,000; $45,000; $48,000; $50,000; $250,000

Median=$48,000
