  1. What is the 2007 ASC Financial Benchmarking Survey?
    a. This annual benchmarking study reports data on key ASC indicators compiled from surveys completed by ASCs across the nation, allowing you to compare your ASC with other ASCs on indicators such as total annual expenditures, OR time and patient volume. The data from this survey can be used to answer questions including how your spending on medical supplies compares to other ASCs and how many staff your ASC has per patient case as compared to other ASCs. The survey also can be used to assess how well your ASC is performing and how to continue to improve end performance.


  2. Who was the 2007 ASC Financial Benchmarking Survey sent to?
    a. It was sent to all Medicare-certified ASCs in the United States including all ASC Association members.


  3. I did not receive the 2007 ASC Financial Benchmarking Survey forms, where can I get these?
    a. Please contact the ASC Association at ASC@ascassociation.org or 703.836.8808 to get copies of your survey forms.


  4. Does it cost to participate?
    a. There is no cost to participate. All participants will receive a personalized, preview of the results before publication. All participants are also eligible for discounted prices on the Financial Benchmarking Survey (the book).

    ii. Nonmember Participant - $395
    iii. Member Non-participant - $395
    iv. Nonmember Non-participant - $495


  5. Who can participate?
    a. All ASCs are eligible to participate.


  6. How do I remit my survey forms?

  7. I am new to benchmarking. Are there any resources that can help me?
    a. Yes. The ASC Association has several resources that can help you:

    i. Benchmarking for Dummies — $25
    ii. Finance & Accounting Book — $200


  8. What if I cannot complete all the questions on the survey?
    a. Please answer as many questions as possible on the survey but it is not necessary to answer every question to be useful.


  9. For what time period do I fill out the survey forms?
    a. For all questions except #2 under the demographic and operations profile section, everything is completed for the most recently completed financial year.


  10. If our ASC also has a lab, should we include the financials from the lab?
    a. No, an ASC should only include the financials from the surgery center.
