Help ASCA Discuss Concerns about Your Drug Supplies with the CDC

July 19, 2012

ASCA staff and leaders will meet with officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) next week to discuss issues surrounding single-use/multi-use vials and the CDC Position Statement “Protect Patients Against Preventable Harm from Improper Use of Single-Dose/Single-Use Vials”—a document that Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services surveyors use to assess ASC compliance.

Please help ASCA represent your interests and address your most important concerns during this meeting by responding to the questions below. All responses should be sent to Jack Coleman at jcoleman@ascassociation.org by close of business Friday, July 20.

  1. Is your center having issues with single-use/multi-use vials?

  2. Are any specialties, procedures or specific medications causing more issues than others?

  3. What are the injectable drugs that your center uses most frequently that are packaged in quantities that don’t meet your needs (i.e., does your center have to waste part of the drug because the quantity was too much, or does your center have to order more vials because the amount in the vial is too small?)?

  4. Is your center encountering any reimbursement issues involving drugs?

  5. Is your center having issues adhering to the CDC’s Position Statement “Protect Patients Against Preventable Harm from Improper Use of Single-Dose/Single-Use Vials?”

Thank you for your help.
