FASA Responds to MedPAC’s Report to Congress
FASA expresses disappointment in MedPAC’s report to Congress entitled "Medicare Payment for Post-surgical Recovery Care. FASA feels MedPAC should have requested an extension in order to undertake a more thorough study of this complex issue. FASA believes that a more thorough study would have resulted in a recommendation of Medicare coverage for recovery care.

FASA's 2000 study on post-surgical recovery care builds on its 1996 study. The study shows a 7.6% expansion in number of ASCs providing recovery care.

FASA Releases Analysis Comparing ASC Payment Rates with those of Hospitals
FASA analyzed reimbursement rates in final rule for HOPDs and compared it to the proposed rule for ASCs. HOPDs paid significantly more than ASCs under the new systems that HCFA is implementing.
