Success Stories

ASCs Storm Capitol Hill

Last June, ASCA members from 10 states—Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas—travelled to Washington, DC, and met with more than 50 of their legislators and staff.

US Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and US Representatives Brett Guthrie (R-KY), Linda Sanchez (D-CA), Leonard Lance (D-NJ) and Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) signed on to the bill as a result of the meetings.

And in April, ASCA members from six states—Alabama, Florida, New Hampshire, Tennessee, Texas and Washington—travelled to Washington, DC, and met with more than 60 of their legislators and staff.

US Representative Francisco “Quico” Canseco (R-TX) signed on as a cosponsor of the ASC Quality and Access Act of 2011 shortly after meeting with ASCA members from Texas.

In addition, US Representative Randy Hultgren (R-IL) became a cosponsor of the legislation after Mark Mayo, executive director of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association of Illinois, and Joe Ollayos, administrator of the Tri-Cities Surgery Center in Geneva, Illinois, met with Scott Luginbill, Representative Hultgren’s senior legislative assistant.
