Prepping/Dry Time

During her session, “Prepping/Dry Time,” Bamburg will discuss patient prepping guidelines from organizations including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses and the National Quality Forum. She will also address techniques for reducing bacteria within the surgical arena that involve both patients and OR staff.


Kimberly Bamburg is the technical consultant for 3M Infection Prevention Division. She is an RN, with 8 years of operating room (OR) experience at a Level 2 trauma center in Dallas, Texas. There, she taught the OR internship program for new RNs and scrub techs. She has a master's degree in educational administration and was a classroom public teacher in the Dallas Independent School district for 8 years. She served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for 8 years. She also served in the Peace Corps in West Africa. She is certified in sterile processing.

One of Bamburg’s main areas of expertise is infection prevention education, particularly in the OR and procedural areas such as catheter lab and labor and delivery. She also specializes in education and training for new 3M sales representatives and OSR, or on-site reviews of large hospital systems, where she observes and reports on areas of improvement with a focus on sterile technique, patient safety and current recommendations for best practices in the OR.
